Icônes - Maisons Victoire (1).png

When we first came across the Maison Victoire, it was in a state of disrepair, uninhabited for years. Neglected by its former owners, parts of the walls were beginning to crumble...but the charm and soul of the place convinced us to save it. Maison Victoire is a love for Creole architecture, a love for a country and a city.

A little bit of history?

On September 12, 1928, Hurricane Okeechobee hit the Guadeloupean coast with winds of 230 km/h. Locals called it "cyclone 28". Its passage caused a tidal wave that destroyed Pointe-à-Pitre. It caused thousands of deaths.

420 million francs were released to rebuild the island. These funds allowed for the reconstruction of Guadeloupe, but with more durable materials. Ali Tur, a Parisian architect, played an active role in this reconstruction by designing more than 120 buildings.

In 1931, 3 years after the hurricane, Maurice L., a notary in Pointe-à-Pitre, acquired a plot of land on Barbès street for 35,000 francs. He built a 3-story concrete building, which is now the Maison Victoire.
